Arafura Games
28 April 2003
Valleys athletes Neil Sampson and Jacinda Swain have been named
in the New Zealand development team for the Arafura Games in Darwin
during May.
Soon after the team was named, organisers notified Athletics NZ
that the event had been cancelled due to international concern over
the spread of the SARS virus. Athletes named in this team have been
informed that they will still compete in this development team at
a track and field meeting to be advised.
Neil and Jacinda both continued to improve their track times in
the past season, with Neil winning a silver medal in the Australian
under 20 800m and Jacinda lowering her 800m PB to 2min 14sec.
Another Hutt Valley track and field athlete, Bradley Quinn, has
been named in the Arafura Games team for the javelin.
