Michigan Is Upset Winner of Men's Distance Medley.
April 25 2003.
Nick Willis, a freshman from New Zealand, opened for Michigan, running
the fastest 1200-meter leg in Penn Relays history, 2:49.7, giving
the Wolverines a slim lead over Kentucky, Florida, Villanova and
Arkansas.
Nick also ran 1:47.9 in the 4 x 800m relay, he is now being look
at by Athletics NZ for inclusion in the team for the Paris world
championships in August (he would have to run under 1:47 to achieve
the B standard). Michigan finished seventh in the 4 x 800 after
the lead-off runner (not Nick) dropped the baton.
