New Zealand Road Champs
Hamilton
Some awesome results where achieved at the New
Zealand Road Champs in Hamilton last weekend. The most vocal support
at the prize giving, came from the Valleys United corner.
Everyone who raced put in an awesome effort on a
course that was well marshalled and was ideal for supporters - especially
for the Valleys support group yelling down from the stands of the
Trust Park.
Racing started with the Veteran Women, Women U18
and U20 5 kilometre race. Anna Robertson finished in 4th place in
a time of 19:32, cracking the sub 4 minute k pace and in representing
the Wellington Centre team received a silver medal.
In the Men's U18 and U20 event the boys worked together
as a team to help both Greg Simpson and Neil Sampson place 2nd for
the Wellington Centre, then Sean Butler, Greg Simpson, Craig Mathews
and Michael Macklin placed 2nd in the Club Teams Event.
The combined Senior Men/Women and Veteran Men's
event made for some great racing all round, with most worried about
being lapped on the 1.73km loop course.
Andrew Brown put in the performance of the day finishing
in a time of 32:26. This was then topped when the men's team consisting
of Andrew, Jason Fraser, Rob McCrudden, Ali Dennis, Mathew Beldham
and Thomas Westgarth received a bronze medal in the Club Teams Event.
Last but not least are the awesome vets. Dave Murgatroyd
was second in the VM40 division, Ron Stephens aka NOD was 3rd in
the VM55 and John Wood was 2nd in the VM60 division. These lads
along with Ian Blyth also received a bronze medal in the Vet Men's
50+ Club Teams Event.
A long with the awesome running, a mention needs
to be made about the support that was given though out the day.
Everyone was out there encouraging their fellow team mates when
they where not racing, well done and thanks also to Bruce Kerse
for coming up to Hamilton to support us before heading back to Wellington
in the afternoon.
National Road Relays
With a little over 3 weeks to go, planning is well
and truly under way. As previously advised, the maximum cost will
be $250.00. If you have travel subsidies this will further reduce
the cost.
This price will cover your flights, accommodation
and social entry fee. Any other costs are for your own expense.
At the social a light super will be served and there
will be a band in attendance. At this stage we plan to order in
pizzas for Saturday night, so that everyone has had something to
eat prior to going to the social.
